Hokkaido – China cultural exchange project

Office339 have been promoting cultural exchange between the two regions, Hokkaido and China, since 2008.

Hokkaido is suffering from weak economy and decreasing population, in spite of its rich nature and great weather. Centrally, Chinese economy is rapidly growing, and naturally, facing social and environmental problems as a result.

Under such circumstances, we aim to increase number of people getting involved with art and culture in both regions, free from political and economical limitations, with smaller language barriers.

We hope our activity will result to boost tourism from China to Hokkaido, and waken the industry in Hokkaido, otherwise not interested to seek opportunity outside.

Quality products from Hokkaido may find their market in China, and we hope to introduce a lifestyle harmonized with nature, to China after having through their fast economic growth. Ultimately, we hope to create a sustainable social environment in both regions.

Our projects so far

Essence of the Snow Country -Artists from Japan’s 40th Parallel-
2008/6/20 – 7/19

We have organized one month exhibition, featuring 11 artists and 5 furniture manufacturers, at some space in M50 in Shanghai. Total of some 150 pieces of artworks were exhibited. At the opening, some sweets and drinks from Hokkaido were provided.

There were 1300 attendants on the opening day alone, and eventually, some participating artist got invited to international art fairs. This was an important occasion for the artists from Hokkaido got acknowledged in China.

Hokkaido Touch in Shanghai
2008/12/13

We jointly organized this event with “Dochujin”, and Key International. We have introduced Hokkaido furniture and products, in addition to artworks at a nice location in suburb of Shanghai.
