“Girl by Girl” Ai Ryumon Solo Exhibition

Office339 is pleased to announce Ai Ryumon’s the first solo exhibition in China “Girl by Girl”.

Ai Ryumon is a fresh Masters graduate from Kyoto City University of Arts. Her vivid oil paintings capture a uniquely feminine viewpoint as she takes an objective and often-witty look at young women of her own generation.? Her images also subtly comment on the context of that generation within Japan’s rigid social customs and traditional structures. Ai’s is a deceptively candy-coated world of startling colour and audacious composition.

As Office339’s AIR Program (Artist In Residence), she came to Shanghai end of July. During the residence program, she has interacted with local people and artists, and challenged herself with a new sense of expression, which she would not be able to realize in Japan.

The exhibition is the culmination of the 2 month residence program. We will exhibit 20 of Ai’s new artworks including a large, 3 square metre painting, pieces from her ‘Layer Tights’ series and a number of drawing works. There will also be a live performance at the opening reception.
