EXPO 2010 Shanghai China Park Sculpture Project──Japan Program

Under the theme of “Better City, Better Life”, EXPO 2010 Shanghai China will be held at the water front area of the Huangpu River, the central of Shanghai, for 184 days from 1 May 2010 to 31 October. The size of the venue is 328 hectare, twice as big as the venue of Expo 2005 Aichi Japan. With 242 countries and international organisations participants from the world and 70 million expected visitors, the EXPO aims “largest-ever” international exhibition.
Japan will participate in the event through Japan Pavilion, Japan Industry Pavilion and Osaka Pavilion. Koichiro Fujii will also participate as an elected artist by Bureau of Shanghai World Expo Coordination from Japan. Among 28 sculptures which will be installed semi-permanently in EXPO Park on the theme of “the City along river- Shanghai Link of Life”, Fujii was chosen as the international artists. Other chosen international artists are from United States, Germany, France, United Kingdom, Italy and Spain. His piece titled “Bond between Father and Child” is a 2 metre high acrylic sculpture.
2010 Shanghai EXPO Park Sculpture Project Japan committee was established to realise and manage this project and stated the theme of the project as “City, People, and Friendship; Band for Future”. The committee will organise and support the project of installing the sculpture “Bond between Father and Child.” The aim of the project is to send the message of hope for the future and friendship, which fits the theme of Shanghai EXPO, to the world as well as introducing Japanese contemporary art through the installation of the sculpture in Shanghai EXPO Park and related events. The Construction of foundation for sustainable cooperative relationship between China and Japan for the future including cooperation and collaboration with local institutions is also the aim of the project.
